Everyone has seen, heard, and even used the Samsung Galaxy S2 with some being convinced that it was the device they needed. That changed when the Samsung Galaxy W – Galaxy S2´s younger sibling – arrived onto the scene and caused a stir among those who wanted Samsung´s flagship smartphone but can´t afford it.

Why did the Samsung W, called the Galaxy Wonder in certain countries, had such an effect, especially if it sputtered into retail shops with no fanfare?

Before going into that, it must be said that the Galaxy W doesn´t have a dual-core CPU or the sleek, elegant size and feel of the Galaxy S2.

AMD new A-Series processors

AMD ushers in the next generation of computer processors as it announced the availability of its new high-performance AMD A-Series Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) for Malaysia.The A-Series is basically a combination of four x86 CPU cores with powerful DirectX 11-capable discrete-level graphics and up to 400 Radeon cores along with dedicated HD video processing on a single chip. AMD claims the innovative design of the APU is able to render heavy graphics, perform various multi-tasking activities, and even has enough room for advanced capabilities such as gestural interfaces, multi-monitor support, 3D entertainment and real-time image stabilization. With consumers demanding vivid graphics, lifelike games, lag-free videos, ultimate multimedia offerings and power-packed performance all around, it is imperative that the CPU is able to meet such requirements. Now with the A-Series general availability being announced, AMD aims to drive home the three key-pillars its new APUs represent: high-performance computing, day-long battery life, and discrete-card level graphics.In fact, one of the most innovative offerings of the A-Series that is seemingly impressive is the real-time image stabilisation for video playback. IdeaPad Tablet K1 tablet

CHINA computer maker Lenovo may be a little late in the tablet computer market, but is confident of making an impact with its IdeaPad Tablet K1. Its country general manager Malaysia Khoo Hung Chuan said the company has included some irresistible offers. The “goodies” include 40 preloaded applications worth RM200, 4GB cloud storage and a minimum 32GB internal storage. Khoo said the idea to include the preloaded applications which comprised office productivity tools, games, social networking apps and anti-virus is to allow users to start using the tablet as soon as they switch it on. “Normally when people buy a tablet, they will have to install some applications first but with the IdeaPad, it’s more convenient,” he added. Applications preloaded in the IdeaPad are from companies like Amazon, Adobe, Electronic Arts, Rovio, Zinio, Dataviz, Angry Birds HD, and the full version of Documents to Go. The IdeaPad Tablet K1 comes with a NVIDIA Tegra 2. 0 1GHz dual-core processor, 10. 1-inch high-definition screen, 32GB internal storage which is expandable to another 32GB via its microSD slot, Android 3. 1 Honeycomb operating system, integrated from (2MP) and at the back (5MP cameras, mini HDMI connector and a one-year warranty. Besides having access to 250,000 applications in the Android market, Lenovo has also created its own apps store called Lenovo App Shop which offers highly-tuned apps for Lenovo IdeaPad tablet. “We are working with developers to develop apps that will optimise the IdeaPad fully,” said Khoo. adding that currently, 200 apps are available for download at the Lenovo App Shop. For those who enjoy entertainment on the go, the device comes with Flash 10. 3, which allows it to run and open all websites and video formats available currently. And for social networking fans, the tablet features Lenovo’s SocialTab application, which gives a one-stop social connection where they only need to sign in once to access all their social network accounts. The IdeaPad Tablet K1 is currently available in WiFi version at RM1,499.
